In 1993 John Fernyhough purchased a 1951 XK120 Jaguar. He then bought two more cars and the idea of forming a collection of classic British sports cars was born. The 31 classic English sports cars on display in the Classic Car Museum were built between 1946 and 1973. All are regularly driven, and maintained by a supporters club of passionate enthusiasts.

An old Shell service station built in the 1920's was acquired to house the collection. The collection swiftly increased because John purchased more and more cars until he simply ran out of space again. But John was so attached to the original service station building he had a new three-storied building constructed inside the original structure. The entire collection of classic cars is neatly stored on the sides of each floor.
